Peridot is the birthstone of August.
It has been mined for over 3500 years and is the gem variety of the mineral Olivine. The use of Peridot in the jewellery making dates back to ancient Egypt and it was also very popular during baroque period.
Hardness (6.5 – 7) makes the stone slightly more fragile and it is recommended to be worn with more care to prevent scratching.
Important deposits were found in the Red Sea on the volcanic island of St. John, Myanmar (Burma), China and Pakistan.
