Tourmaline (hardness 7–7.5) is the birthstone of October.

It is the only gemstone with such richness in colour variations. Pink colour is one of the most popular and most Tourmaline gems display change of colour when viewed at different angles. Important deposits are found in Sri Lanka, Malagasy Republic, Brazil and Mozambique.

Tanzanite is the birthstone of December and was discovered in 1967. Named after its country, Tanzania, it is a blue to violet variety of the mineral Zoisite. Hardness (6.5 – 7) makes the stone slightly more fragile and it is recommended to be worn with more care to prevent scratching.
